Connection difficulties with RK006 to IOS device, or to Mac

Hi, I am having a lot of trouble connecting my new RK006 to my iPhone, iPAD and MAC in order to be able to configure it. I managed making a connection yesterday with my iPAD, but since then I've been unable on any device.

Is there some kind of trick to doing this, since usually, connecting a device goes without a glitch.

I either get the notice "Searching RK006..." on Chrome or "Failure opening MIDI I/O on Safari. On my M1 iMAC, Midi Studio can somehow see the RK006 as it shows up with all its ports, but it also shows that the device is not online.

Any tips that you can share? I love what this device is able to do, but it won't do much for me if I can't configure it.I've gone through a lot of settings, using Chrome, I've made sure that the RK006 has is an "allowed Midi device", and that a USB connection is possible "ASK", but still nothing. That I can't connect it to either may MAC, my iPhone or iPAD makes me believe that the unit may be faulty, but I think it's more likely that I am doing something incorrectly.

Normally if the connection works on the iPad (with the Apple CCK inbetween for example) it should be also ready to connect to a pc or Mac - unless some other device is occupying the midi bus. I think Reason for example wants complete control over the midi interface, preventing other apps in using it. Also perhaps a computer restart, chrome can have a hiccup now and then. Are you certain the USB cable is in working order? The URL of the settings page for the RK006 is https://retrokits.com/rk006/settings/ (no www)

I've managed connecting the RK006 to my Mac and have been able to configure it, so that's good. Still no joy with the phone or iPad but now that I can use my Mac I'm not in such a hurry. I'm sure I'll get it working eventually. I do need to check the cable (The one USB to Iphone/iPad one. It is a legit Apple cable, but they never seem to last very long so the could be it.

It was the USB cable, can connect just fine now to my 'phone and iPad (as well as my Mac) so problem solved!

Spry nice - yes there are usb cables just for charging and usb+data. The one which comes with the rk006 is for both and you need that if you want to use the rk006 as midi interface

I would like to add that at first I had connection issues as well with my MacBook Pro, could not connect to the editor, MIDI was passing through but Sync from Reaper was shoddy. Figured out it was my Anker USB hub that was causing all the issues. Using official Apple USB-C to USB Adapter and everything works perfectly.

I'm having trouble connecting the RK006 to my new MacBook Air (2024 M3 running Sonoma).

When I connect via an official apple USB-C to USB adapter, and the original USB to micro USB cable, I can see the RK006 in Audio MIDI Setup as an active midi device. I can also see all of the RK006 input and output ports listed in the Settings page of Ableton Live 12 and can send midi signals from Live to the RK006 (to make lights on different channels blink), so I assume that my connection to my Mac is working. However, when I try to access settings on the device using the web editor in Safari I see "Failure opening MIDI I/O".

I have been able to connect and update settings in the past, but not on this Mac (as far as I remember).

Are there any steps I can take to troubleshoot this?

Unfortunately safari does not support webmidi, you can use chrome or brave or Firefox for example, they do support webmidi but Apple thinks it’s too dangerous for safari. In M-based Mac’s you can also download the iOS app, it will run on OSX Mx-silicon machines too
