RK006 not connecting to Expert Sleepers FH2

I've got the RK006 in Standalone USB Host mode and connected to a USB hub. I have a USB cable going from the hub to the device port on FH2. The device doesn't recognize the RK006 host.

The FH2 works fine if I connect it to a computer. Seems like there's something with the RK006 acting as a host. However other midi hardware is working through the same host and hub. (novation peak is correctly receiving messages and playing notes from a connected keystep)

If you just would connect the RK006 to a usb host like a computer / tablet / or FH2 with a regular usb data cable (micro usb to usb a) it should be hosted, it's a class compliant MIDI device. But perhaps the FH2 does not like an interface with a lot of buses ? The RK006 has 14 midi buses to work with. If you use the OTG cable with the RK002 it will change to host mode and looking at the front of the FH2 it seems like you need it to be in device mode? Or is the FH2 then a usb device?

Problem resolved. I tried connecting FH2 directly to the RK006 and it worked. Then I tried a smaller powered hub with 4 ports, and also an unpowered 4 port hub, and in both cases the FH2 correctly reported that it was connected as a USB device to the RK006 hub. Looks like it was a problem with the hub.

This was a 7 port hub similar to the Electron Overhub. Viewing the device with the mac hardware inspector you can see that they're actually 2 USB 4 port hubs daisy chained together. I had carefully connected so that it was on the first internal hub, not the daisy chained hub, but that didn't seem to help.
