[SOLVED] Problems with RK006 after updating zu macOS Sonoma

I had to reconfigure all MIDI channels and MIDI IO of all synths and drum machines, but it was worth it. Now everything works as expected.

By the way - I have upgraded to sonoma 14.4.1 and the RK006 original port assignment seems to be in order again, so it seems Apple did their job and this workaround can be reverted, if they follow this through on the iOS part too we're back to our old good self :-)

Rejoice! I can confirm the most recent iOS (14.5) update for iPad users fixes the problem as well.

Hi - am a Sonoma user not yet running 14.5 (it's downloading now to install tonight). When connecting to the RK-006 browser editor am being prompted to update the firmware, but sounds like that's a bad idea now and 14.5 should fix the issue? Does this firmware prompt need to be edited now with the update?

Got some weird behaviour whilst trying to setup ableton & RK006 for first time, so glad I found this thread as was assuming it was my terrible DAW knowledge letting me down 🙂

If you already have 2.04 an update would not be really necessary, I have a short summary on the last three firmware changes below:

In order to keep using the full 10 output ports on DAWs we changed this fix in adding 7 dummy ports to the RK006 inputs and even up the I/O.You need to clear existing RK006 devices from OSX cache system before you can use this fix. grit Thankyou for speedy reply. How do I tell current firmware verison running? With the Sonoma fix in place, is there any harm in following the prompts and installing 2.06 now instead of 2.04?

In the global settings on the bottom there's a version info, there's no harm in updating with new sonoma, only thing is there is no single symmetric mode but a 10port symmetric mode with dummy midi ports (we prefer the single one though so we'll probably revert this again in the future)

Can I update to 2.04 manually instead of 2.06? It's much simpler in my brain without the dummy IN ports showing in Ableton.

Hey everyone,

I'm having the same issue as described above. OSX is showing 3 I/Os and 11 outs. So far I have done the following:

updated the firmware on the rk006
followed the instructions here/in the YouTube ideo on the RetroKits YouTube channel
updated OSX the the very latest version (Sequoia 15.0)
used the factory reset long-press function on the device

When I enable the USB quirk mode on the RK006 it shows as having one port, essentially an all port that sends to every midi out on the device. When I revert to the standard setting I get the same odd behavior of some outputs being "all" and others not corresponding to their logical port etc, etc.

I will submit a bug report to Apple, but I thought they had solved this issue?

They had solved indeed, and we rolled back the fake extra I/o because it was confusing.
