Perhaps the midiface 4x4 does not power the rk002 because it being a midi interface I assume it supports midi system exclusive. Perhaps you can get around it by putting a midi device in between which has a hardware thru port:
Midiface out -> midi device in - midi device hardware thru port-> rk002 in - rk002 out -> midiface in
