Midi Upload from Android

Hi, new RK008 user here and interested to here if anyone is transferring midi data/files from Android phone to RK-008.

I was trying to upload Midi Files through Chrome on Android via the management page ( https://retrokits.com/rk008/settings/ ) but it seems this is not supported on Android. I also read that there is a possibility to update the FW using a standard midi file (e.g. via https://www.retrokits.com/rk004/settings/ ) and was wondering if a similar way exists to upload a midi file to the RK008.

I also looked for another route to playback+record midi files via a suitable Android app but was not able to find something suitable using standard BLE-MIDI. Any tips are welcome 🙂

Happy to learn if someone found a way to do something like this.

chopsuey - I have both Roland Zenbeats and Audio Evolution on my android phone, both work with BLE midi.(although i use them seperate from the RK-008)

The Free version of Roland Zenbeats is limited but might be all you need, the included drum machine is very good, it has many lanes of automation that can be programmed with a swipe of the finger, something that would take much longer using any other method.

Audio Evolution although not as modern looking as Zenbeats is filled with functionality, is not very expensive, I have purchased all the Pro Toneboosters plugins for it so i can master tracks on the go if i need to.

The rk008 settings page uses webserial and perhaps that is not useable on android chrome, however there is a BLE version of that too: https://retrokits.com/rk008/settings/ble
You need to pair the RK008 with the phone via BLE and then it should work with the webpage. Not sure how the file upload actually works there but we tested this on desktops and that works fine.

Just tried the BLE settings version on Android and Windows but couldn't get it to work. It seems WebMidi is initialized correctly ("conn: busy") and I can see WebMidi Events in https://studiocode.dev/midi-monitor/ but no buttons appear on the settings page.

Did you pair the RK008 with the used machines on forehand? That's something you must do before loading the RK008/BLE page and then enable webmidi access on the browser too.
