Issue with Roland Boutique JU-06

Hi,

I found a weird issue with this synth. I'm still running rk-008 with rk-006. They are connected through a 10-port powered usb-hub because I have many other usb-devices (midi keyboards and a few usb-midi synths) in there. Now, everything else works as it should but when I plug JU-06 in there it crashes either rk-006 or rk-008 or both. In any case all midi-information stops. When I unplug JU-06 and do a power cycle for rk-008 / rk-006 everything works again, but just when powering on it releases midi data forward. It feels like JU-06 overloads RK-006 / RK-008 with midi data until it hangs up and after power cycle gets released.

Funny thing is, JU-06 to my understanding is not a USB-midi-device, so it should not send anything through usb.
Just to be sure, I tried midi-filter with rk-006, did not help.

So, it causes weird instability. Another example: if I connect everything in a specific order and power on everything simultaneously, it works. BUT, if I power off any of the other usb-devices, everything crashes.

I have none of this problem/ instability when I power JU-06 separately with a dedicated psu and not through usb-hub.

I'm sharing this beause it might be something in rk008 / rk006 that causes instability in other setups/synths as well..

Hi, some random thoughts:

the JU-6 can be USB-powered, meaning it could be drawing current (500 mA) from the USB port;
it can do both midi and audio over USB, meaning it could be difficult for the RK-006 to handle;
USB hubs with more than four ports are likely to not work with the RK-006.

Is the issue present when you connect the JU-6 via TRS-MIDI?

It could be a power issue, plugging the JU06 causing an 'insurge' on the power bus which glitches the RK's? Does this also happen if you just have the JU06 on battery power? The JU06 is an older boutique which does not do Class Compliant MIDI to my knowledge so a midi loop via USB is not applicable here. The auto-MIDI-thru'ing ot the boutiques it a different matter (if you mean by 'plugging' - connecting via MIDI cables) ; If you have a keyboard on the JU06 or you move the sliders there will be MIDI coming out of the JU06. If you feed that into the RK006/RK008 and after that back into the JU06 (with some extra MIDI sequence) you will get a MIDI loop. Some boutiques have a MIDI-local-off setting (D05) which solves this but I'm not sure if that is available on the JU06.
